Bio: Jiete Li worked as the Carpenter Foundation Fellow at the National Gallery of Art and a curatorial researcher at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC from 2017 to 2020. She took part in curating and producing exhibitions, such as “The Life of Animals in Japanese Art” at NGA and the touring exhibitions of Asian female artists, Hung Liu and Maya Lin. Following her dream to establish a women’s art museum in China, she returned to Beijing last year and initiated "In Light of Shadows," an online platform connecting and empowering Chinese female artists. In the span of several months, "In Light of Shadows" has grown to become a start-up team of 14. Under the leadership of Jiete, whose curatorial practice continues to center female, underrepresented, and marginalized voices, "In Light of Shadows" aims to narrate stories of women's art, advocate for emerging female artists, and create an inclusive and inspiring community of artists, curators, and enthusiasts.
