Modern Life
Digital Painting
2020
I painted “Modern Life” during quarantine. Thinking back to our ordinary lives before the COVID-19 pandemic, it is tempting to recover the shimmer (however slight) of the fleeting moments we have too often overlooked. One means for such is through photographs, which preserve the moments along with our emotions. In working from photographs, I had the choice to decide what memories to present and how. I value this sense of agency over my own memories and their interpretations.
In Love | Screen, I hope that the screens of my phone, my painting, and the exhibition will become one, and through the vivid -- albeit fragmented -- scene of relaxing joy in a college dorm, train us to love the moments in our lives.
